Berkeley Show is back for 2017
Supported by neighbouring businesses, farmers and producers the 114th Berkeley Show will go ahead on Sunday 25th June, a change from its traditional August Bank Holiday date.
The Show had suffered low attendance due to poor weather for three consecutive years and its future was uncertain. Thanks to the support of its neighbours and good will of many local people the show is able to go ahead. All fingers are crossed for a sunny day.
Set in Meadows below the Historic 12th Century Berkeley Castle in the heart of Gloucestershire the Berkeley Show was started in the late 1900’s and remains one of the traditional highlights of the local calendar. The Show has remained true to its rural roots celebrating the produce and livestock of the Berkeley Vale and surrounding countryside.
We encourage you to get involved, you’ll find a fun day ahead with lots to see and learn.
This year we can look forward to the new Village Green area with a local beer and cider celebration - provided by our local brewers - and Entertainments Stage with traditional Morris dancing to modern street dance. Enjoy plenty of shopping at the Farmer’s Market and Craft Stalls. There will be lots of food to enjoy, this year supplied by our local caterers and producers.
The Show has a slightly new layout with a focus on livestock and rural craft. New this year will be Gloucester cattle classes, which are a traditional local rare breed. Their milk is used for the famous Single Gloucester Cheese, of which there also new classes this year. There are many sheep exhibited in a range of classes even judging the fleece.
The Main Ring will have a good mix of entertainment including Merion Owen’s Quack Pack - a working dog and duck display, the Berkeley Hounds, Vintage Machinery Parade, Show Jumping, Bale rolling competition and new for 2017; a Grand Parade of prize winning Livestock.
This year we are encouraging more children to get involved with activities and competitions and hopefully they’ll bring their families along for the day! There will be a designated marquee with a range of activities for our younger visitors free of charge.
So, enjoy your day with us and feel proud that you are supporting our local farmers and businesses.
An affordable, fun and educational day out for all the family celebrating our local rural community.
