The Livingstone Link
In 2005 a Link was set up between The Livingstone Anglican Parish in Zambia and St Andrew’s Church in Cromhall.
Livingstone was the capital of Northern Rhodesia in 1911 but in 1935 the capital moved to Lusaka. Today Livingstone is a growing town due to tourism and has a population of around 100,000.
There is only one Anglican parish in Livingstone and only one priest – Rev. Father Jackson Katete. There are five churches in the parish.
St Andrew's is the oldest church, dedicated in 1911 and built in Cape Dutch style. It is a thriving church with a large congregation and Sunday school.
The Youth Group
The Youth Group consists of responsible young people, involved in church services as servers, acolytes and Sunday school teachers.
The girls belong to St Veronica’s, which is a young version of MU. They show a great concern for the future of children and young people in Zambia.
Mothers’ Union
The work of the MU is extensive and woven into all aspects of life in the parish.
Wherever you go in Zambia, you are likely to see the characteristic blue and white uniforms as they proudly go about their work - every congregation is swelled by their numbers; they take an active part in services; they sing in choirs.
In the words of Revd. Jackson Katete of Livingstone Parish, “They make the church alive and well”.
But their involvement does not stop here. It reaches out into the community wherever there is need. They care for the widows and orphans. They visit the sick at home and in hospitals helping in any way they can and comfort the bereaved. They are the Social Services of Zambia.
