Little Acorns Pre School and Toddlers Group

Little Acorns Pre School is set in the grounds of Tortworth VC Primary School in a purpose built log cabin.

It offers pre school education for children from 2 years and 9 months upwards who will go on to attend Tortworth VC Primary School and St Andrews C of E School in Cromhall. We also welcome children who will be attending other local schools if we have available spaces.

The log cabin provides the children with a fantastic environment in which they are able to play and learn. Their morning starts in the 'Quiet Room' where the register is taken. The children then have approximately 1.5 hours of learning through play, during which they are encouraged to join in with specific curriculum based activities organised by the staff.

'Tidy up time' is then jointly carried out by the staff and children before they have their mid morning snack and story. Whilst sat at the table the children talk about the topic of the week. Some of the topics covered recently have been opposites, towns and cities, Chinese New Year and World Book week (where teachers from Tortworth School came in and read the children a story). Children are encouraged to bring items from home, relevant to the weeks topic, which they can then talk about.

The pre school boasts a wonderful enclosed outdoor play area, which includes a pirate ship, wendy house, wooden castle and various other play equipment. Following snack and story time the children spend time in the outdoor area. The children then return inside to finish off their morning with 'song time'.

Little Acorns Pre School is open 5 mornings a week and can accommodate up to 20 children per session.

Opening Times

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday9am–12.30pm
Wednesday9am–1pm (Rising Fives)

On a Wednesday the session is for 'Rising Fives' (those children who will be starting school the following September). We have recently introduced the 'Lunch Club' during this session where children are able to have a school dinner. This has been an extremely popular addition to the day with the children and will help them when they go to school.

Our Staff

Little Acorns is currently run by two fully qualified members of staff, a part time assistant and voluntary help from parents. Please take a look at our fantastic Ofsted Report carried out in November 2005.

The Pre School committee are always looking for ways to raise funds for the pre school and are busy organising events such as curry nights, cake sales and discos to name a few. Please keep an eye out for forthcoming events that will be advertised locally.
